Noorani Qaida – Lesson 12 – Standing Dhammah

Welcome to the twelfth lesson on how to read the Quran in Arabic using the famous Noorani Qaida (نوراني قاعدة) booklet.

In this lesson we will be introduced to the third long vowel, standing dammah.

Standing Dammah VS Regular Dammah

After the Arabic alphabet, short vowels, sakin, and standing fatha and kasrah, now we’re going to cover the long vowels.

The third of the long vowels is the standing dammah.

The difference between the standing dammah and the regular dammah is that it is stretched a second longer but has the same “U” sound.

Watch the video for an example of the standing dammah.
