Welcome to the first lesson on how to read the Quran in Arabic using the famous Noorani Qaida (نوراني قاعدة) booklet.

In this lesson we will be introduced to the Arabic Alphabet.

 

How to Memorize Arabic Alphabet

Let me just remind you that the toughest part of this book for most people is memorizing the Arabic alphabet.

My advice to you is to use flash cards and space out your studying.

On the front of the card write the Arabic alphabet (or print it out from the PDFs) and on the back write the pronunciation using English transliteration.

So for example, the English spelling of the first Arabic letter can be, Alif or Aleph etc.

Below I will type out the transliteration of the Arabic alphabet so that you don’t waste time arguing with yourself on how to spell a letter ;).

NOTE: If the first letter is capitalized then that Arabic letter will be thicker/heavier than a similar letter. For example: taa and Taa

alif – baa – taa – thaa – jeem – Haa – Khaa

daal – dhaal – raa – zay – seen – sheen

Saad – Daad – Taa – Zaa – Ain – Ghain

faa – Qaaf – kaaf – laam – meem – noon

wow – ha – hamzah – yaa

Now before you start walking around with your flashcards, first watch the video below to improve your pronunciation of the Arabic alphabet.

 

Don’t Stress Yourself Out – Space It Out

Older students, when they decide to learn how to read Arabic for the purpose of reading Quran, they have a lot of zeal in the beginning, but slowly, they burn themselves out.

So I suggest spacing out your studying, maybe 5 minutes after every salah? Or whatever works for you.

Considering how short the video is, I suggest watching the video before (and preferably also after) each mini study session.
